Sharon Gardens, London E9
Completed: Jan 2018
Architect: Alexis Bamforth
This 1930's terrace was brought up to date with an imaginative rear extension and zinc roof. Some of its original period feel was sustained by reclaiming and relaying the existing parquet floor and installing crittal windows and doors.
"Matt Elgood and his team are absolutely first class. Fantastic to work with, calm, technically superb and incredibly hard working. Builders of very high quality and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone."

Highbury Hill, London N5
Completed: May 2017
Architect: Duncan Woodburn RIBA
Interior Design: Rachel Chudley Interior Designs LTD
We undertook the complete refurbishment of this large Victorian house. Structural walls were removed to open out the space and create a considerably larger kitchen-dining area and larger master bedroom with a dressing room. In terms of construction, we converted the loft space, created a roof terrace and installed a combination of crittal and traditional sash windows.
We worked to a very specific high quality design specification that included retaining some of the original features (such as reusing existing floorboards) and installing bespoke 1200x1200mm concrete tiles with inlayed brass. A considerable amount of bespoke joinery was also provided. On a lighter note, a few fun items were included in the specification, like a laundry chute from the children's bedrooms to the utility room, a secret button-attivated retractable bookcase and a remote-controlled projector shelf.
Although far from straightforward, a strong working relationship between all parties resulted in a finished result that everyone is extremely proud of, and the project was a joy to work on.
"Matt is not only a builder I trust with quotes and budgets (always prompt and
accurate) but also someone I would trust to make creative decisions, when needed.
His team were diligent, trustworthy and a pleasure to have around and the work has
all been done to an incredibly high standard. I really couldn’t recommend him
more highly."

"Working with Matt and his team is a breath of fresh air! A thoughtful, honest
bunch who work incredibly hard. It is very hard to find people this good. I look
forward to site visits with them!"

London N5
Completed: Dec 2015
Achitect: Duncan Woodburn RIBA
We extended out to the rear and side to create a considerably larger kitchen/dining space. Two large roof lights and full width sliding doors to the garden allowed the new space to feel very bright and 'bring the outside in'. The garden was completely re-landscaped and a new WC installed under the stairs on the ground floor.
The project ran very smoothly with client and architect extremely happy with the finished result.
"Fantastic team and delighted with the end result. Would recommend you to anyone, with no hesitation whatsoever."

This side extension and kitchen was our first project with Paul Archer Design. A large roof light was installed in conjunction with lowering the rear reception area floor to bring light into the extended kitchen/dining area and the main building. The very modern design was enhanced by the bespoke kitchen and the large pivot door to the garden/fixed glazing panel/casement window. In line with the minimalist feel, we installed underfloor heating.
The project ran to schedule with client extremely happy with the finished result.
"We absolutely love our new space and your guys were amazing throughout."

London NW3
Completed: April 2014
Architect: Duncan Woodburn RIBA
Based on the success of our previous project in the same road we were invited to tender for the contract to completely refurbish this mews house. The whole of the roof was removed and raised to allow for a fully functioning bedroom / ensuite on the top floor.
It was also extended to convert a previous terrace into interior space. 3 new bathrooms (including 2 wet rooms) were installed, as well as a bespoke new kitchen and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.
Extensive use of LED lighting (with movement and light sensitive switching) were installed in the bathrooms to gave a more subtle ambience. Bespoke joinery in each room gave the finish a fully integrated feel.
The project ran very smoothly, and both client and architect were extremely happy with the finished result.
"Matt and his team did a fantastic job extending and renovating our house in Hampstead. They were an absolute pleasure to work with, and worked hard to minimise disruption to our neighbours. The house is stunning, and finished to a very high standard. I highly recommend Matt (and have already done so to neighbours contemplating a similar project)."

London SE1
Completed: Sept 2012
The property was a Grade 2 listed 4-storey terraced house that had been badly neglected for decades. The project involved a complete refurbishment including full rewiring with internet access throughout for smart TVs, new pipework to supply central heating, kitchen and 3 bathrooms (including a wet room), underfloor heating, remedial structural work to correct movement within building and bespoke joinery throughout.
This included replicating original wall panelling and shutters to match the centuries old original features.
To allow an open plan basement area we installed a fire detector sprinkler system. Shortly after we started, the architect left the project and we assumed the role of full project management, implementing the program in line with the client’s vision and exceeding their expectations.
The client was thrilled with the results and is considering purchasing another property for us to work on with them again. We have also since been working on both neighbouring houses.
"In what had the potential to be an extremely stressful and challenging
project, Matt was a source of constant help, support and expertise. He worked closely
with my partner and me for more than 18 months on a complicated and major project
to restore our new home and has been wholly instrumental in its success."

London NW3
Completed: January 2012
Architect: Duncan Woodburn RIBA
This modern 1970s mews house was brought stylishly up to date with a loft conversion and raised roof line, 3 new bathrooms including a wet room, a new kitchen, 3 large sliding door sets, underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and bespoke joinery.
Phenolic insulation board and lightweight polymer modified render was added to the exterior of external walls to reduce U-values (thermal transmittance) and fuel bills through greater heating efficiency.
The brief was to retain the 70’s style using bare wood finishes whilst bringing up to date with large sliding doors and modern fittings.
Under tight restirictions the project came in on time and on budget. Due to the success of this project we have worked on another property in the same mews, with the same architect.
"We have worked with Elgood Builders on a number of projects: in all of
them, the quality of the work has been first class and his pricing has been
consistently fair. Matt Elgood is also a pleasure to work with."

London E1
Completed: Nov 2010
This ex-1920s factory space was knocked through and reconfigured to allow for a larger bathroom and a more practical kitchen space.
Working to a tight deadline, in close collaboration with the client and a very specific design brief, the project was finished to schedule and to the delight of the customer.
London N1
Completed: August 2010
Working in close collaboration with the Finnish Institute, we converted this long-derelict linen factory into a popup restaurant with a fully functioning professional kitchen able to serve 100 covers a night – all in under 6 weeks.
The restaurant was fully booked for the whole of its 8-week run, with favourable writeups in Vogue magazine among others.
